About This Video

In this ball comparison, I’m on the London 44ft pattern to see if the Hammer Maximum Effect and the Hammer Tour V1 truly complement each other the way I thought they would when I drilled them. The whole idea was simple: as the lanes transition, can I ball down from a bigger asym look to a smoother tour-type piece without having to move my feet a ton—and still get the motion I’m looking for. London is a great test because it’s more challenging than a house shot and it shows you the natural characteristics of each ball from front to back. I start with the Maximum Effect and pay attention to how it picks up and how much room it gives me. Then I switch to the Tour V1 with my own hypothesis in mind: I expected it to either get too far down lane or “spark up” because it’s storing more energy. After throwing them back-to-back, I realized my original plan was a little off for sport conditions. For something more sensitive, I really do think there’s a ball that fits between them—so I brought in the Guru Oracle as that in-between look. My takeaway: on a league shot you might get away with just Maximum Effect to Tour V1, but on sport I’d rather have all three in the bag.
