About This Video

In this Saturday Afternoon LIVE, I kicked things off with a quick audio check, a little chat about the weather (windy but sunny here), and a thank-you to everyone who watched that overnight snow livestream. Then I got into what really made my week interesting: after the snow, I woke up to a full network outage and a UPS that was beeping like crazy. When I tried powering my UGREEN NAS back on, the UPS load dropped hard and the rack actually went down right in front of my eyes—twice—so I pulled the UGREEN out of the rack and moved it to the workbench where it’s been stable ever since. From there I shared a spec comparison I put together between my older Grandstream GWN786P and the newer GWN786PL Pro switch I received (still in the box). On paper, a lot is similar (48 ports, PoE budget), but the Pro model adds things like redundant power, more routing capacity, and an SDVoE controller—plus I’m still curious whether it’s any quieter than the “very loud” older switch. I also gave an update on my Grandstream door station learning series: I hit a wall on NFC/card activation because the features I want require Android or web features that are “coming soon.” Finally, I walked through my new two-node Proxmox cluster (with a Raspberry Pi as a qdevice for quorum) and the weird VLAN/IP issue I ran into during VM migration.
