In this video, I demonstrate how to transfer files from a Synology NAS to a UGREEN NAS using rsync. The walkthrough shows how to create the destination folder on the UGREEN NAS and configure an rsync task from Synology using Hyper Backup in Single Version mode, ensuring the files remain fully readable after the transfer. This is a practical, step-by-step example of moving data between two NAS platforms without converting files into a proprietary backup format. #Synology #UGREEN #rsync #NAS #Homelab #NASMigration #HyperBackup #SelfHosted #DataTransfer #TechTutorial 00:00 Intro & why this video exists 00:32 Creating the shared folder on UGREEN NAS 01:11 Folder permissions explained 01:14 Before moving on (viewer question prompt) 01:25 Important missing step (rsync service on UGREEN) 01:39 Enabling rsync in UGREEN Control Panel 01:54 Switching to Synology NAS 02:00 Creating an rsync task with Hyper Backup 02:25 Choosing backup data (folders & packages) 02:39 Selecting rsync as the destination 02:46 Single version vs multiple versions (CRITICAL) 03:26 Connecting to the UGREEN NAS 04:02 Selecting files to transfer 04:24 Naming the backup task 04:48 Review & start the transfer 05:03 Verifying files on the UGREEN NAS 05:32 Final thoughts & key takeaway Share this video - https://youtu.be/6Yp0jBiEgLY Subscribe to this channel - https://goo.gl/dRbTqD Channel Support: Buy Tony A Coffee - https://www.buymeacoffee.com/quiktech PayPal - http://paypal.me/quiktechsolutionsllc Earn $100 Cloud Credits from Digital Ocean by signing up at: https://m.do.co/c/41d68f5e11bd Amazon Affiliate Storefront: https://www.amazon.com/shop/quiktechsolutionsl.l.c Buy the DXP4800 Plus - https://amzn.to/3LZQaPW Buy the Synology DS1525 Plus - https://amzn.to/4rLgkVN Western Digital Red Plus 4TB HD - https://amzn.to/3ZwiYTe Seagate Ironwolf 4TB HD - https://amzn.to/4atZ28y Disclaimers: This video is not made for or intended for kids. About This Video

A few months back I shared my switch from Synology over to UGREEN and I mentioned a “pro tip” to use rsync for file transfer. A viewer recently asked me to do a true step-by-step walkthrough, so in this video I show exactly how I move readable files from a Synology NAS to a UGREEN NAS using rsync—without ending up with data locked inside a proprietary backup format. I start on the UGREEN NAS by creating a shared folder that will receive the files, and I explain the permissions step so your user account can actually write to that destination. Then I call out the easy-to-miss part: you must enable the rsync backup service on the UGREEN side in Control Panel > File Service > rsync, and apply your account settings. After that, I switch to the Synology NAS and build the transfer task in Hyper Backup using an rsync-compatible server destination. The key takeaway is the backup type: for this kind of migration you want Single Version mode. If you choose Multiple Versions, your files land on the UGREEN in Hyper Backup’s proprietary format and they won’t be directly readable. I finish by running the task and verifying the folders and files on the UGREEN NAS so you can see the transfer worked end-to-end.
