About This Video

In this Saturday afternoon live stream (January 10th, 2026), I started an hour early and kept it shorter—about an hour—because I had to head straight to the airport and fly to Chicago for a close family visitation/celebration of life. I still wanted to show up, hang out with the community, and give you a quick update on what’s been going on, so the earlier start time was the compromise. On the tech side, I shared a real-world Wi‑Fi lesson from my own house. After moving most of my network from Wi‑Fi 5 to Wi‑Fi 7 (including adding the outdoor GWN7670 LR), I tried running only two indoor access points to see if coverage would hold—especially in the bedroom. The surprise was that phones and iPads looked fine, but the older Roku stick on 2.4 GHz kept dropping. With me traveling, I brought the bedroom AP back online as a temporary “hybrid” setup: I unplugged it before, then re-enabled it with only the IoT SSID, turned off 5 GHz, and kept transmit power low. It’s not my favorite having mixed Wi‑Fi generations, but it proves how walls (brick + sheetrock), device radios, and placement can make or break reliability—especially for IoT and older streaming devices.
