On this Christmas Eve morning, I jumped on a quick, last‑minute live stream mainly to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year—whoever could pop in for a few minutes. I was sitting out on my back deck (new deck and pergola), enjoying a cup of coffee, and keeping things very “bare bones” with no fancy production gear. The whole point was to test a simple live setup: streaming directly to YouTube from an iPhone 17 using the Blackmagic camera app, with a Hollyland Lark wireless mic plugged straight into the phone. While I was chatting with folks, we hit a few tech topics that naturally came up—especially the DJI drone import ban (effective Dec 23, 2025) and what it could mean long-term for batteries, parts, and firmware/security updates. We also talked shop about networking—why I moved away from UniFi for my full stack, what I like about Grandstream, and how UniFi’s constant UI changes can be a headache when you’re managing multiple client networks.
