About This Video

Most of us live in homes (or apartments) that were built quickly and cheaply, and it shows—blank walls, builder-grade finishes, and zero personality. In this video I walk you through quick, easy, affordable ways to add character so your space feels less cookie-cutter and a lot more intentional. I cover ceiling upgrades (yes, ceilings matter), like painting for contrast, carrying wall color onto the ceiling for a cohesive look, adding crown/trim, faux beams, shiplap, and one of my favorites: a ceiling medallion for an instant “more polished” moment. Then I get into the details that make a home feel custom: adding molding to flat doors, building up existing crown and baseboards so they look more grand, and creating accent walls that add texture (not the random early-2000s one-wall bold paint situation). I also talk about bringing in wood to warm up a sterile space, upgrading doorknobs (they’re basically door jewelry), replacing boob lights and other generic fixtures, swapping ugly wall vents if it’s safe for your setup, fixing harsh 5000K lighting, layering curtains over blinds, and using wallpaper for pattern—especially in small spaces like a powder room or closet.
