In this video I walk you through how I build a DIY hitting insert for a golf simulator in 2024—simple, sturdy, and designed to keep your stance area clean while giving you a dedicated, replaceable hitting strip. The whole point here is to get a setup that feels solid underfoot, doesn’t shift around, and doesn’t require you to spend a fortune on a prebuilt insert. I show the materials I use, how I size everything, and the little details that keep it from squeaking, flexing, or getting chewed up over time. The core of the build is a Lexan/polycarbonate base with end pieces (plastic board, but you can absolutely use wood if you’re trying to save money). I use foam strips to snug things up and help eliminate movement, plus heavy-duty double-sided tape and max strength Gorilla construction adhesive to lock it all together. If you want to add a tee holder, I show the easy way to do it with rubber tees and a step drill bit. Optional Velcro is there if you want extra insurance to keep the insert from creeping. If you’re building a sim and want it to feel “done” without overspending, this insert is one of the best bang-for-buck upgrades you can do.
