In this video I’m out at Harrison Bay State Park in Tennessee with my Nikon Z8 and the 600PF telephoto prime, chasing birds and a few deer on a cold morning. Because it was so chilly, I ended up doing most of the shooting from the car—real-world, field-test style—so you can see how this setup works when you’re trying to stay warm, stay steady, and still react fast to wildlife. I walk through what I’m looking for in the field, how I’m approaching subjects from the vehicle, and what I’m paying attention to with the Z8’s autofocus while photographing birds. And yes… I made a mistake that had me questioning the Z8 autofocus system (LOL), so I talk about what happened and what I learned from it.
