I took the Nikon Z8 and the Nikon Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S PF out for a sunny morning of bird and wildlife photography, and I decided to give my “new used” Nikon Z 1.4x teleconverter another shot. The first two times I tried that TC, I wasn’t pleased with what I was seeing, so this was really about figuring out if it was the gear, the conditions, or just me being too picky. With good light, I wanted to see if I could get the reach I wanted without giving up the kind of detail I expect for birds. In this field test, I’m focused on real-world results—how the combo feels out in the field, what kind of images I’m getting, and whether the 1.4x is worth keeping in the bag for wildlife. The big takeaway: on this sunny morning, I had better results with the teleconverter than I did before.
