About This Video

We’re heading back to Florida in March 2026 for bird photography, and in this video I lay out what I’m planning to shoot, how I’m thinking about locations, and—most importantly—what gear I’m bringing to make the trip productive. This is one of those trips where I want to keep things realistic and field-friendly: long lens coverage for birds, a flexible walkaround option, and a couple lenses for landscapes, waterfalls, and anything else we run into along the way. I talk through the core setup I’m planning around, including the Canon R5 Mark II and my go-to Canon RF 100-500 for a ton of Florida wildlife situations. I’m also bringing the RF 800mm f/11 for extra reach when I can use it, plus wide and mid-range options like the RF 14-35 f/4 and the RF 70-200 f/2.8 for travel, people, and scenery. I also mention a few accessories I actually use in the field—like the Haoge replacement collar and the ES-83 hood to save space—because little stuff like that matters when you’re living out of a bag and trying to stay ready for birds.
