In today's video, I return to Harrison Bay State Park for more winter bird photography. This time I decided to use the Canon EOS R7 and the ultra-budget, ultra-light, ultra-small RF 100-400 telephoto zoom lens. This lens really punches above its weight (and price!). Especially when used on the R7. About This Video

In this video I’m back out at Harrison Bay State Park doing more winter bird photography, but this time I kept it super simple: Canon EOS R7 paired with the ultra-budget, ultra-light, ultra-small Canon RF 100-400. I wanted to see how much real-world bird work you can get done with a setup that doesn’t break your back or your wallet—and honestly, this lens punches way above its weight (and price), especially on the R7. The big takeaway is that the R7 + RF 100-400 combo is a legit field kit when you’re walking around a park, reacting to birds as they pop up, and trying to stay mobile. On the R7, that 100-400 turns into a very “bird-friendly” reach, and the whole setup stays small enough that you actually want to carry it. If you’re curious whether a budget Canon RF telephoto zoom can still deliver for birds in the real world, this is exactly the kind of outing that answers it.
