I take my Canon EOS R7 and the RF 100-500 zoom lens out for some bird photography on a cold December morning. I ended up finding a few birds. I also put the EF-S 10-18 ultra-wide lens on the R7 and made a landscape photography image. I hope you enjoy this morning of Photography. About This Video

In this video I take my Canon EOS R7 out on a cold December morning and do what I love most—walk around and see what the birds give me. I’m running the RF 100-500mm for the bird stuff, and the whole goal is real-world shooting: how this combo feels in the field, what it’s like finding subjects when it’s quiet out, and how I approach getting a few keepers instead of forcing it. If you’re wondering whether the R7 and 100-500 are a solid bird photography setup, this is exactly the kind of morning you’ll recognize. I also switch gears and throw the EF-S 10-18mm on the R7 to make a landscape image. I like mixing it up on these outings—birds are the priority, but if the light and scene are there, I’ll absolutely grab a wide shot too. The big takeaway is simple: one body, two very different lenses, and a relaxed field workflow that’s actually realistic for how a lot of us shoot—especially when conditions are cold and the action isn’t nonstop.
