About This Video

Happy fall, friends! In this step-by-step tutorial, I’m walking you through how I paint two different watercolor pumpkins in a really beginner-friendly way. We start with a simple sketch so you’re not overthinking the shape, and then I show you how I build up that “pumpkin-y” form with light washes first, letting everything stay loose and relaxed. I’m using warm fall colors like Quin Sienna and Cadmium Yellow Deep, and then we deepen the curves and grooves with richer shadows so the pumpkins feel round. You’ll see my process for layering (instead of trying to get it perfect in one pass), how I use a couple round brushes to keep things easy, and how I mix in deeper neutrals like Raw Umber and Payne’s Grey to add contrast without making the pumpkins look muddy. I also share how I like to paint the stems and greenery with a mix of greens, and how small adjustments—like softening edges and reserving a few highlights—make a big difference. If you’re looking for a cozy fall painting you can do along with me, this one is such a fun, relaxing project.
