About This Video

In this video, I’m walking you through a super simple, beginner-friendly watercolor potted lavender painting—step by step, with lots of room to relax and just enjoy the process. We start by gathering a small set of supplies (nothing complicated!) and then I show you how I like to block in the pot first so we have a clean “base” to build on. From there, we move into the lavender blooms with a light first layer, keeping everything loose and airy so it doesn’t get overworked. Once that first layer is down, I add the leaves and then we slowly build depth with additional layers—this is where the painting really starts to come to life. I share how I use a limited palette (Quin Lake, Prussian Blue, Payne’s Grey, and a couple greens) to mix soft lavender tones and gentle shadows without making things muddy. We finish with final details to sharpen a few edges, add contrast, and make the stems and clusters feel more natural. If you’re new to florals, this is a great one to practice layering, brush control, and that “loose but intentional” look.
