About This Video

In this beginner-friendly watercolor tutorial, I’m showing you how to paint anemone flowers in three different ways—so you can pick the style that feels easiest (or try all three for practice). We start with a simple, front-facing anemone where I focus on loose, relaxed petals and keeping the shape soft and flowy. Then we move into a layered anemone, where I build depth by letting the first layer dry and coming back in with darker values and a few extra petals to make it feel fuller. After that, I walk you through a side-view anemone, which is such a fun way to add variety to your floral compositions. I also finish everything off with stems and leaves so your flowers feel complete and ready to use in wreaths, bouquets, or a larger painting. Throughout the video, I’m keeping it simple: a limited color palette, easy brushwork, and lots of little reminders to slow down and let the watercolor do its thing. If you’re new to florals, this is a really relaxing one to paint along with—and you’ll come away with three anemone styles you can reuse again and again.
