About This Video

I filmed this video while I was home for reading break—aka the ā€œI want to rest but exam season is right thereā€ kind of week. So I shared the evidence-based study tips that genuinely changed how I approach learning, helped me ace exams, and let me get good grades without relying on all-nighters and last-minute cramming. Everything starts with structure: I list the exact exam coverage for each course so I’m not spiraling in uncertainty, wasting time being indecisive, or studying the wrong lessons. From there, I focus on understanding first (especially as a biology senior in a super concept-heavy, memorization-heavy program). I use outside references, videos for processes, and the Feynman technique—explaining concepts like I’m teaching my 15-year-old nephew—so I can spot gaps and fix them. I also show how I ā€œsynthesizeā€ using visual summaries (tables, mind maps, and a Scrintal board) so I can compare/contrast topics instead of getting lost in pages of notes. Then we get into the big retention tools: active recall (because rereading and highlighting can give you that illusion of competence), spaced repetition (the forgetting curve is real), and practice problems/practice tests to learn the steps—not just the facts. I also talk about taking controlled mental breaks (my personal sweet spot is 15 minutes work + 10 minutes break) and creating a study schedule so you’re not making decisions all day and burning out.
