About This Video

I’ve been working on this $200 “console killer” PC for weeks—building, modifying, tuning, and testing—and I’m finally showing you the finished result… but I’m also a little embarrassed because it’s slower than I hoped. The goal was simple: match the Xbox Series S in as many categories as possible (form factor, energy efficiency, user experience, gaming, and price). The final build landed around a 6-core i5-8400, 8GB DDR4, a 256GB NVMe SSD, a 240W PSU, and an Intel Arc A380 6GB, plus the little extras you actually need to use it like a console-style setup. As a regular PC, it’s honestly solid: it’s snappy enough for office stuff, it’s tiny (8.2L), and it pulls around 140W while gaming. With Steam Big Picture and an Xbox controller, it gets pretty close to that console vibe—and you get PC exclusives and emulation on top. But when I lined it up against the Series S in six cross-platform games (Overwatch 2, New World Aeternum, Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Alan Wake 2, and Hogwarts Legacy), the Xbox was just better overall, especially as games got heavier. My takeaway: this isn’t an “Xbox killer”—it’s more like an Xbox slight inconvenience. If I were to fix it, I’d start with 16GB of RAM (it helped stutter a lot) and I’d wait for a better GPU deal like a GTX 1650 Super or RTX 3050 low profile. And yeah… at $200–$250, the Series S is a totally fine choice if you just want to play games smoothly.
