In this video I’m getting some basic touring mods bolted onto the Land Cruiser and, honestly, it turned into a proper “learn as you go” day. First job was the 2.5m Safari awning. I drilled the frame straight into the sides of the roof rack with stainless bolts, then immediately made a rookie mistake by mounting the rail too low—just enough to stop the doors opening. Once I shifted it, it opened up sweet and there’s loads of space underneath, even with the roof tent hanging over the back. From there I started sorting the touring setup properly: fridge slide in through the wooden parcel shelf, and a 40L fridge mounted up. The slide is solid and makes life easier because I’m sick of climbing on the roof rack. The only drama is the cigarette plug being at the front, so when you slide it out you’ve got to route the cable down the side (it’ll do for now). I also fitted a 40L water jerry can and had a bit of a nightmare making an Easy On-style tank fit an ARB rack with mesh—basically had to improvise and make it work. I finished up mounting the shovel, figuring out a workable Maxtrax setup with brackets and a quick-release strap, and doing a big drawer re-org. I also show a Smittybilt tyre repair kit and why I prefer a portable compressor setup so I can help others if needed. Then it’s a quick run and we’re gearing up for a big trip—just over 3,000 miles.
