About This Video

Gentlemen, the world is not getting any calmer, and your security is your problem—same as mine. In this video I break down the best ways I’ve found to carry a defensive handgun while I’m hunting, hiking, or fishing, because your carry setup has to work with packs, layers, and movement. I’m not a professional gun guy—I’m a concealed carry guy—and I’ve been carrying for about seven years pretty much every time I leave the house. I compare four real-world field carry options and then I actually run them on the timer: appendix IWB (my normal everyday setup), pocket carry (Ruger LCP Max in a kydex pocket holster), a 3:00 OWB paddle holster, and a chest rig (Vedder’s chest setup) that solves the “I lost my belt line” problem. Along the way I talk comfort, how each method plays with waist belts and saddle hunting, and what draw speed realistically looks like. The big takeaway is simple: OWB is fastest, appendix is great until you get dynamic or add a waist belt, pocket carry is light-duty but easy to always have, and chest carry is my go-to when I’m geared up with a pack and bino harness.
