It was a laid-back afternoon in the woods, and Maple put in some real work. By the end of the hunt, we managed to put two squirrels in the bag, with Maple handling the retrieves. Squirrel hunting is where it all started for me. It’s low stress, a great way to scout deer country before the season, and it’s about as field-to-table as hunting gets. In fact, our next video will be a recipe for cooking the very squirrels from today’s hunt — so stick around for that. After that, it’s straight into Ohio whitetail archery season. 🔴 Subscribe to Outdoor Tactics: https://www.youtube.com/@Outdoor-Tactics?sub_confirmation=1 Watch Next https://youtu.be/w55KJsdTsHo https://youtu.be/RA6mLk__1aE https://youtu.be/usB-h22X3BY Meet My Hunting Dog! https://youtu.be/SHjejNLLxUw 🎥 Gear I Use to Film This Video Camera: https://amzn.to/41QqBWw Lens: https://amzn.to/4iODXIT Mic: https://amzn.to/3QVGhBt Lapel: https://amzn.to/3Ru8VtC 📚 Explore My Playlists: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXhY1s1KeA11n96N08lBnQsPjiDzdL1qp https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXhY1s1KeA10LNDz-ll_O5AaWHkq7nK_e https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXhY1s1KeA10icFSwY8YLBnFT5L2qT9Uh https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXhY1s1KeA13oaNCH7M1GyNTGeCJwnoI5 Thank you for watching Business Inquiries: ytoutdoortactics@gmail.com

About This Video

Gentlemen, in this video I’m back on public land with Maple for another small game hunt, trying to put together enough squirrels for a recipe I’ve got in mind. We’d only managed one squirrel in the last hunt video, and that’s just not quite enough, so the goal today was to walk-and-stop “still hunt” style—watching the treetops, listening for movement, and letting Maple do her thing if she happened to point or get interested in ground scent. I’m running my Remington 870 Wingmaster in 20 gauge, and for this use case—especially when it’s still leafy—I prefer a shotgun over a .22. We end up doubling up, and Maple handles the retrieves like a champ. You’ll also see me talk through a not-so-pretty first engagement (yeah… three shells for one squirrel is expensive meat), and then we settle in around a big oak that’s just raining acorns because I’m seeing multiple squirrels using that spot. The big takeaway: squirrel hunting is low stress, crazy fun, and it’s honestly one of my favorite ways to scout deer country right before season. This is a property I’ll be hunting whitetails on in Ohio in about a week, and being out here with the dog just makes it that much better. Next video is the recipe using these squirrels, and then it’s straight into Ohio archery season.
