About This Video

In this video I head up to Golden Grain Archery in Mercer County, Pennsylvania with my buddy Tyler to shoot their outdoor 3D course—30 targets, 30 arrows—and we keep it simple with IBO scoring, trash talk, and a little friendly competition. We’re both pretty inexperienced with 3D, so the whole point was to see if this kind of practice actually translates to hunting better when it counts. Spoiler: it’s a ton of fun, and it exposes exactly what you’re doing wrong—quick. We deal with real-world stuff you’re going to see in the woods: weird angles, hard-to-pick spots, changing light, and judging distance. At one point Tyler realizes his rangefinder might be in meters, which is… crazy, but also a perfect example of why practice matters. We talk through where the “kill zone” actually is on different targets, how fatigue shows up on the back half, and why I’m happy with a lot of these shots “for real life” even if they aren’t perfect 11s. If you’re trying to be more consistent for bow season—especially on public land where you don’t get do-overs—this is a cheap, practical way to pressure-test your setup and your process.
