This year I tested a ton of overlanding gear—winter camping, summer trips, and now rolling into fall—so this video is basically the “best of 2024” list based on what I actually used. I cover the stuff that made camping and off-road travel easier, not just what looks cool on paper. If you’re building out a truck or SUV setup and you want gear that’s genuinely useful (and sometimes surprisingly versatile), this is the shortlist I’d start with. I kick it off with my favorite piece of equipment of 2024: the Devos Light Ranger 2000. It’s stupid versatile—tripod, hang it, dim it, change colors, and it’s solid even in heavy wind. From there I get into shelter and sleep: the FSR Tailgator Awning for tailgate weather protection, the FSR Odyssey V2 rooftop tent (blackout + heater/AC ports), and the HEST comforter because I sleep better when it feels like home instead of a mummy bag. Then I hit the “quality of life” stuff: Helinox chair/table for packing light, my integrated lighting + switching setup (Garmin PowerSwitch + Dasaita head unit + Morimoto lights), rugged ROAM storage boxes, ICECO fridge/freezer (my “Lexus” compared to SetPower), the Gerber ComplEAT cooking kit, and the Camp Chef Everest 2X—20,000 BTU per burner and easily my favorite stove I’ve used for car camping.
