About This Video

In this video I install a ProSpeed rack on my GX470, and I walk you through how I assembled it, what hardware goes where, and the little details that make the install go smoother—especially if you’re doing it solo like I did. It was brutally hot (like 90–96°), so I ended up pre-assembling sections in the shade and only running a few crossbars at first to keep the rack lighter when it was time to lift it onto the roof. I also show how the wind fairing/windscreen slides into the extrusion track, and why you want to go slow and make sure every oval piece is actually seated in the channel. I also cover removing the factory GX roof rails and trim (and yeah… the plastic on these older trucks breaks super easily—kind of on par for a 2004). The big takeaway is sealing: I used silicone generously in the roof mounting holes and around the spacers so it seals up like factory. After driving with it for a day and then a few weeks—including a windy storm and heavy rain—I’m not getting wind noise (it’s quieter than my last two racks) and I’m not seeing leaks. It’s low profile, looks great on the GX, and I’m keeping it—next step is mounting my rooftop tent, awning, and maybe adding a rear molle panel and other accessories.
