About This Video

Hey guys, my name is Jason, and in this video I’m doing a full walk-around of my new-to-me 2004 Lexus GX470—basically a luxury SUV from a bygone time that I’m turning into an overland/camping rig. I’ve only had it about 10–11 days, but I’ve already put roughly 2,000+ miles on it driving across the country, and it’s quickly becoming one of the most comfortable vehicles I’ve ever owned. I’m kind of in the camp that vehicles peaked in the mid-2000s, and this thing feels like a relic in the best way—quiet, comfy, and simple. I go over what’s already been done to it: Coastal Offroad DIY front and rear bumpers with swing-outs, a Warn winch, ARB BP-51 suspension, SPC upper control arms, BudBuilt sliders, Method wheels with BFG KO2s (285/75R17), a snorkel, and a Switch-Pros setup. I also talk about what I like, what I don’t (yes, the Baja amber situation looks like a McDonald’s right now), and what I’m planning to change—wheels/tires, lighting, possibly bumpers/skids, and figuring out the roof rack situation with the snorkel. Biggest takeaway: the GX470 is insanely comfortable, the 4.7L 2UZ-FE is a legendary engine, and buying a built rig can make sense depending on what you’re trying to do.
