About This Video

In this video I’m walking through five (okay… five plus a bonus) ways I actually camp with a truck topper on my 2018 Tundra with a color-matched Ranch fiberglass topper. The whole point is versatility: a topper lets me use the truck for normal life stuff—yard work, house projects—then turn it into a legit camping setup when I’m ready to get out. I start with the simplest option: tossing a mattress right on the bed floor. It works, it’s easy, but the bed bumps and the wheel wells make it less comfortable and limit your space unless you’re a minimalist. From there I get into the setups I like more: using a real sleeping platform like the Bam Beds system (packs down small and gives you full width above the wheel wells) or the FLATED Air-Deck (inflatable but firm, straps in, and stores compact). I also cover rooftop tents—my Ranch topper can handle one, and my favorite RTT so far has been the Freespirit Odyssey. Then I talk DIY platforms (endless options, but space and cost add up fast) and even running a simple cot so you can store gear underneath. Bonus: the topper’s biggest win is keeping all your stuff dry, even if you still prefer ground tent camping.
