In this video, I’m showing Windows 11 running on an M1 Mac using VMware Fusion 22H2 Tech Preview—and it finally feels usable. The big change versus my older attempt is that VMware actually gives us VMware Tools now, which means proper display support, scaling, and a much smoother overall experience. I’m running a recent Windows 11 Dev Channel build (25174) on macOS Ventura Public Beta 2, on the base M1 Mac with 8GB RAM, and the day-to-day UI feels way more “functional workstation” than it used to. I also walk through the quirks I hit. The new “Windows 11 64-bit ARM” preset didn’t boot for me (PXE message), so I had to fall back to my old method: create an “Other 64-bit ARM” VM and tweak the VMX file. Internet still wasn’t fully automatic either—I had to pull the same strings as before with a couple commands and a reboot. And yes, the UI still looks oddly squared off (no rounded corners), even though File Explorer tabs are there. The good news: Microsoft Store works now, and the trick that worked for me was installing the Xbox app first, then letting it prompt the Store install. The bad news: gaming is still a no-go—Cuphead and Minecraft wouldn’t launch past splash screens. Overall, it’s way better than it used to be, but VMware still has some polishing to do.
