It’s been a long time coming, but Apple finally dropped its new Apple TV app for Windows 11—alongside Apple Devices and Apple Music—and in this video I do a first look at Apple TV specifically. One thing to know up front: these apps are technically “preview,” even though the UI doesn’t really label them that way once you open them. Also, at the time I recorded, you couldn’t just search Apple TV in the Microsoft Store—you needed a direct link, so I made sure to include links to all three apps. Design-wise, it’s a pretty Windows 11-ish layout with a left sidebar and the usual sections like Watch Now, Apple TV+, Store, and Library. The structure reminds me a lot of the Amazon/Fire TV row-and-column style, and overall it’s functional. But with my designer brain on, I immediately noticed inconsistent corner rounding and some banner images that look oddly squared off or misaligned—little polish issues that feel extra noticeable coming from Apple. The biggest usability quirks show up in playback. I couldn’t find a quality selector at all, and the snapping behavior is… weird—when you snap the player, it picks its own size/aspect behavior instead of snapping cleanly like a normal Windows app. Downloads and simultaneous downloads do work, and picture-in-picture is there, so it’s not a disaster—just a preview app that needs some UI/UX cleanup.
