About This Video

In this video I take a different route with my app reviews—stepping away from the Microsoft Store and looking at what people actually install on a Windows 11 PC. I’m reviewing Ubisoft Connect (aka Uplay), and yeah… it’s the classic “launcher for your launcher” situation. I walk through the main tabs (News, Games, Store, Ubisoft+), the profile/status options, and the overall layout. Visually, it’s clean and straightforward, but it also feels like a skinned website in a wrapper—especially because you can’t even zoom in on articles like you can in a browser. The real story here is the experience: DRM friction, bugs, and unnecessary hoops. I talk about how even if you buy Ubisoft games on Steam or Epic, you still need Ubisoft Connect installed and running—or your games won’t launch. Offline play is also annoying because you need to be online first to “activate” things. I also show how game pages work (using UNO and Valhalla), how downloads can bounce you to Steam, and how the in-game “Store” option is inconsistent or just refuses to load. To top it off, the Ubisoft+ cloud gaming section made my PC ramp fans and slow the app down, which is not a great look.
