About This Video

In this video, I’m doing a quick Dev Channel check-in on two Windows 11 apps that just got updated: the Camera app and Media Player. The Camera app is now on version 2022.206.2.0 and it finally gets that “updated to the look and feel of Windows 11” refresh. I had to fight the Microsoft Store a bit to even see it—spamming “Get updates,” and on the Camera side I literally had to search “Camera” to prompt the update—so if you’re on Dev and you don’t see it, play around with the Store for a minute. Design-wise, the new layout looks pretty decent, and they added QR code and barcode scanning modes. QR scanning works fast, and barcode scanning worked for me too (it read the code correctly), which is honestly pretty dope. But I do have a big UI complaint: switching camera sources is just a cycle button with no dropdown, so you never know what you’re switching to next—super annoying if you have multiple inputs like I do. I also walk through settings like Pro mode, framing overlays (rule of thirds, crosshairs, square), burst behavior, and quality options. Then I briefly cover Media Player (version 11.2206.30) where the main new feature is finally audio CD ripping—though I couldn’t demo it without a CD drive connected.
