We Built a Baba Yaga Cat Tree In this video, we bring a piece of folklore to life by turning a legendary witch’s hut into a functional, cozy cat tree. Inspired by Baba Yaga’s iconic chicken legged house, this project blends spooky cute aesthetics with real-world cat safety, storybook charm, and a whole lot of shop magic. From hand built wooden legs to cardboard construction, canvas wrapping, hand painted details, moss, skulls, bones, and a big watching creature eye, this build was a true collaboration. Patrick handled the structural framework while Ketturah designed and decorated the hut, transforming it into something that feels like it could wander off into the woods at any moment. This isn’t just a prop, it’s a real, sturdy hangout built to handle rough play from our shop manager, Merlin, and give our cats a warm place to perch during colder months. If you love folklore, spooky builds, fantasy crafting, or just want to see cats approve a project in real time, this one’s for you. if you haven't already, please consider subscribing to our channel to see more content like this! 📍Where you can find us: Business Email: Magneticnerdsent@gmail.com TikTok: Mythical Makers Workshop Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mythical.makers.workshop/ Facebook: Mythical Makers Workshop 🎶 Music is from Epidemicsound https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/gfexzx/ 🧰 SUPPLIES we used: - OSB 2 X 4" - 1 x 1''s - 1 x 2"s - Cardboard - 1/4 inch twisted rope (We needed 175 feet) - 4' x 12' Canvas drop cloth runner - Scrap fabric for the interior - 5 mm craft foam - 3 mm craft Foam - Double sided tape - A TON of hot glue - Gesso - Plaid FX primer - Hemp cord - Plastic bones - Wooden beads and blocks (I found mine at dollar tree) 🎨 PAINTS we used: - Blickrylic: Titanium white, Ultramarine blue, Green oxide, - Folk Art Matte: Burnt umber, Real brown marron - Deco Art Americana: cinnamon stick - Delta: Harvest gold - Vallejo game colors: vermilion, hot orange, black, warlord purple, moon, yellow fluorescent violet Timestamps 0:00 Into

About This Video

In this build, we took one of our favorite bits of folklore—Baba Yaga’s chicken-legged hut—and turned it into something our cats can actually climb, nap in, and absolutely destroy (lovingly). We wanted it to feel like it wandered out of a storybook, but still be sturdy and safe enough for real-life cat chaos. So we combined a solid wood framework with lightweight cardboard shaping, then wrapped climbing areas with a ton of rope and canvas to make it functional, cozy, and claw-approved. Patrick tackled the structural bones of the build (because if it wobbles, Merlin will find it), and I went full goblin-mode on the design: hand-painted details, moss, skulls, bones, and that big watching creature eye that makes the whole hut feel alive. The big takeaway: you can make something that looks like a fantasy prop and still have it hold up like real furniture—if you plan your structure, use the right wrap materials, and don’t skimp on glue. This one is spooky-cute, folklore-heavy, and 100% cat tested.
