About This Video

What’s good everybody, it’s your boy Sling aka MrDifferent, and in this video I’m answering the age-old question I keep getting hit with: “Yo Slim Different, how can I remove background noise?” I tested Waves Clarity Vx, a brand new plugin using a neural network/AI setup that’s supposed to pull your vocals forward and kill the noise. I broke down the simple interface (one main knob, two neural networks, and a reset), then I put it in a real-world, super extreme test—fan blasting right behind my mic—so we can see if it’s legit or just fluff. Inside FL Studio, I played a vocal take with the beat on, then muted the beat so you could really hear that fan noise going crazy. A gate by itself wasn’t doing the job (like we already know), but once I turned on Clarity Vx and found a sweet spot around 50%, it cleaned up way better than I expected without completely destroying the vocal. It’s not perfect, and you can hear it doing some filtering, but for something this extreme, I was honestly impressed—and I can see it saving a take. I also did a quick look at Clarity Vx Pro. If you can swing the price, the Pro version gives you more control and, in my opinion, does a better job—especially for dialogue/post-production work. Just know both plugins can be CPU intensive, so don’t try to run them in real time unless you want your audio to glitch out and fart and go crazy.
