In this video I’m finally talking about the UAD Apollo X6 from a Windows user perspective—because let’s be real, most reviews you see are Mac “plug and play” vibes. I break down why I chose the X6 (6-in/6-out with 6 DSP chips) over the other Apollo options like the Twin X, X4, X8, and the 8P. For my setup I don’t need a ton of inputs, but I still expanded it by running my Arturia AudioFuse 8Pre through ADAT so I can grow into more hardware later. The big wins for me are Thunderbolt performance (low latency, stability), the Console software control, and especially the Unison preamps. I show how I can swap preamp “flavors” on the fly—Neve 1073, API Vision, and tube-style options—without buying a rack full of preamps. And yeah, UAD plugins are expensive, but they’re some of the best, and running them on the interface DSP lets me track in real time and even print effects going into my DAW. Now for the real Windows talk: setup can be tricky, and using apps like OBS/Discord/Zoom can cause crackles and pops because of driver routing and the lack of loopback. Once you get it configured, though, it’s rock solid. Bottom line: for my workflow, the Apollo X6 is “pretty damn good”—not just hype.
