About This Video

In this video, I share the 10 skills I genuinely think you need to ✨thrive✨ in university—not just survive. I’m Kimberly (Moku Kim Med), a second year NTU LKC med student, and after about a year and a half in uni I realized the hardest part isn’t getting through classes… it’s managing all that unstructured time while the self-study and prep work outside class basically doubles. So I start with what I consider the absolute number one skill: time management—because uni gives you freedom, but it also tests whether you can actually use that freedom to hit your goals. From there, I talk about stress management (because going hard and burning out is just not it), budgeting with your newfound independence (yes, I only got my debit card when I started uni), and assertiveness—like setting boundaries, saying no politely, and handling group work conflict without stepping on toes. I also cover self-care (sleep matters), cooking as an underrated life skill (I cook most of my meals in dorms), asking for help as a strength, perseverance when things get tough, taking criticism constructively, and self-motivation through long-term goals and short-term “treat” rewards. My main takeaway: uni gets so much easier when you build these habits early and keep showing up for yourself.
