About This Video

In this video I talk about something that impacts your toddler’s happiness (and honestly, ours too): concentration. I share 10 simple, free, real-life ways to nurture focus—both from what I do in a Montessori toddler classroom and what you can do at home. I also give a quick disclaimer I feel strongly about: there’s a real nature component here. Baseline focus varies by child, ADHD is real, and I never want this to sound like “it’s all up to the parent.” From there, I get practical. I explain how active distractions in the home (like toys that light up or make random noises) can pull a child out of deep work, and why sustained quiet matters in a world full of constant sound. I also cover three big health-and-hygiene foundations that affect concentration: enough sleep (toddlers often need 12–14 hours plus a nap), enough movement and outdoor play, and balanced nutrition (including fats and avoiding big sugar spikes). Then I get into the interaction pieces that make a huge difference: being fully present when your child communicates, practicing simple mindfulness (including the Montessori “silence game”), not interrupting a child who’s focused, giving them real processing time (20–30 seconds can be normal), and not narrating every moment. Concentration is a muscle—when we protect it, toddlers grow it.
