I got the chance to test out this Devos Light Ranger alternative. I couldn’t get myself to spend $200 on a telescoping lantern. What features are similar? What features are different? Is this more budget-friendly light a good alternative? About This Video

Over the last year or so, I’ve been seeing these telescoping lanterns pop up everywhere, and I finally got to put one to the test. In this video I check out the Ogery 2,200-lumen telescoping lantern as a budget-friendly alternative to the Devos Light Ranger. When you search Amazon, you’ll see options from around $50 up to $200+, and that’s exactly why this caught my attention—this one was on sale for about $64 while the Devos 2,000-lumen light was sitting around $250. I’m just not spending $200 on a telescoping lantern. I walk through how the light works and what makes it versatile: the head removes from the stand and can be used like a lantern or flashlight, the three panels fold out and rotate, and you get multiple modes with adjustable brightness plus strobe. I also like the magnets and hook for hanging it in camp, and the included stand telescopes from roughly 29 to 78 inches (about 6’5”). The big surprise for me is the 10,000mAh battery—besides powering the light, it can charge your devices via USB. After using it, I think it’s a great Devos alternative, with a few wish-list items like a taller stand, clearer waterproof info, and (most importantly) a remote.
