I’ve been a Sony shooter for years (and I still am), but in November 2024 I ordered the Fujifilm X100VI and it showed up way faster than I expected. This video isn’t a spec review — it’s a personal reflection on why I wanted a camera that changes how I approach photography. I’ve owned X100 cameras before (X100S and X100F) and even did two full 365 projects with them, and that era is a big reason I fell in love with everyday photography in the first place. After moving back to London in 2023 and starting full-time work, I noticed something uncomfortable: I stopped carrying a camera just for myself. My Sony kit is incredible for professional work — fast, reliable, insanely capable — but after using it all day, the last thing I want is more decisions about lenses, bags, and whether it’s “worth it” to bring the gear. The X100VI fits into my life: one camera, one lens, and a limitation that weirdly makes me more creative. A few things do matter to me here: IBIS means I stop thinking about stability, the 40MP sensor makes the fixed lens feel less scary because I can crop, and autofocus is finally good enough to stay out of the way. More than anything, the X100VI makes me present. It doesn’t replace my Sony gear — it complements it. Sony feels like precision; Fuji feels like intention.
