I finally sat down to review the DJI Action 5 Pro… right as the Action 6 is probably about to drop. Perfect timing, right? I bought this little camera for the kind of footage I normally never get: car rides when I travel, hiking POVs, walking shots, and water/underwater clips — basically all the “set it and forget it” moments that don’t justify taking my bigger kit out. I’ve never been a big fan of GoPros or action cams in general because I was never happy with the image quality. But the Action 5 Pro genuinely surprised me. The build feels solid and super rugged, the magnetic mount is ridiculously convenient, the screens are bright, and the menus are simple. Image-wise, 10-bit D-Log M gives me plenty of room to grade, and even straight out of camera it looks clean. I mostly shoot 4K 25/50, and I love the 4:3 mode for easy cropping to vertical or horizontal later. I also talk about real-world stuff: stabilization (great, but my ND filters caused jitter so I ditched them), audio (fine for a tiny cam, but underwater gets muffled), battery life with the Adventure Combo, and the one time I managed to overheat it — which was 100% on me. Overall, it’s the first action camera I actually use, and that’s probably the biggest compliment I can give it.
