About This Video

In this video, I’m walking you through the Montessori approach to language development from birth to age three—because education begins at birth, and language is no different. I focus on oral language first (speaking comes before reading and writing), and I share how I intentionally create a rich language environment even in that first year when it feels like you’re “talking to yourself.” I talk about reading widely, singing (even if you “can’t sing”), and speaking with your baby in full, descriptive sentences—using correct terms and grammar—so they can absorb language through real human interaction. I also break down practical, Montessori-at-home activities that support language naturally: language baskets with a three-period lesson, sound discovery baskets for beginning sounds, body-part language during care routines, and simple games like “which one is missing” and guessing sounds. As toddlers grow, I show how we progress from concrete to abstract with matching, then sorting and classification, and later sequencing and story retelling. Finally, for children who show interest, I share gentle phonological awareness ideas like sorting by beginning sounds and playing with rhymes—always observing your child and following their development and interests.
