About This Video

In this video I’m sharing our 15 most used toddler toys—the gifts that have actually lasted through multiple stages of toddlerhood and continue to get real, quality play time in our Montessori home. I’m always asked what’s “worth it,” especially around holidays and birthdays, so I included a mix of investment pieces and budget-friendly options, plus both small-space picks and bigger gross motor items. Not everything is a traditional Montessori material, but every item on this list is Montessori-friendly and truly earns its spot. I walk through what made each toy stick: materials that grow with your child (like the Melissa & Doug bear dress-up puzzle evolving from puzzles to pretend play and emotions), gross motor staples (a play couch like the Nugget plus stackable stepping stones for obstacle courses), and hands-on building favorites (HABA creative stones, DUPLO, and later-toddler Magnatiles). I also share why our functional/pretend play kitchen gets used multiple times a day, how cooperative board games like First Orchard work for toddlers, and why the Yoto is my go-to screen-free audio option—especially for multilingual families. If you’re trying to buy fewer, better toys, my biggest takeaway is to choose open-ended items you can combine together, and look for gifts that support independence, movement, and meaningful pretend play.
