What It’s Like to Drive a Zamboni (POV)

Hello all, this is a first person perspective of what it’s like to drive a Zamboni. Here you watch my father cut the ice, who has been doing it for over 20 years. This Zamboni is from 1975, which is one of the older Zambonis that you’ll see operational at this point. As people skate on the ice, they create gouges in the ice from their blades. Ice also gets shaved off while they are sliding around and it creates small piles of snow all over the ice. When the Zamboni comes out, it lowers a sharp blade and cuts 1/64 in. into the ice, shaving a new layer. This shaved ice gets sucked up into the dump tank in the front, which you can see him dumping in the beginning from the previous ice cut. At the same time as the blade is cutting, the Zamboni puts down hot water, which fills in the cracks, levels it all out, and creates an ice surface as smooth as glass. Thanks for watching!
