This is the SZCO M9 Bayonet I bought a while ago for around $30. Is it any good? Well it's not great but in my opinion the M9 is one of if not the coolest looking knives ever made. Thanks for watching. Contact: mnwoodland@gmail.com

About This Video

I picked up a cheap SZCO M9 Bayonet off Amazon for about 30 bucks because, in my opinion, the M9 is the coolest looking knife ever made. It’s got that iconic ‘80s vibe you’ve seen in video games and movies, and even though the M9 platform is kind of known for trying to do a bunch of things and not doing any of them particularly well, I still wanted one just to scratch the itch. This one’s a China-made knockoff (SZCO, not the food company), and the steel is some low-end stuff—pretty sure it’s 3CR or something in that range. In the video I break down what you’re actually getting: it’s not full tang, the handle comes off with a screw, and that construction gives up strength compared to a one-piece knife. I also go over the scabbard features like the built-in sharpening stone and the wire-cutter setup using the hole in the blade. Then I try mounting it as an actual bayonet on my Mossberg 590—and it’s so close, but it doesn’t quite fit without filing/modding the ring alignment. Bottom line: for 30 bucks, it’s not terrible if you just want the look, but it’s uncomfortable in-hand (hard plastic handle, rough edges on the guard ring) and it’s not something I’d choose to actually use over a full-tang knife. For me, it looks cool, but I’d basically never use it.
