About This Video

I wanted wheel locks for my 2025 Tacoma, and the more I researched it the more I realized wheel locks are mostly about deterrence. If someone really wants your wheels, they’ve got ways to get stuff off. But after digging around (and watching tests like Project Farm), I landed on what I think are probably the best wheel locks you can buy: Advanced Wheel Locks. They’re a small business out of Indiana, made in the USA, and they’re definitely high quality—also definitely not cheap. In this video I install them on my 4th gen Tacoma with the factory SR5 alloy wheels and show how the system works. The locks are a cone shape so it’s harder to get tools on them, and the key only fits one way—if you don’t line it up right you can damage the key. I torque them to the Tacoma spec of 97 ft-lbs and talk through the real-world stuff you need to know: the key isn’t 21mm, so it won’t work with the factory lug wrench. In my case I needed a 22mm socket plus a breaker bar, and I recommend keeping that in the truck. Big takeaway: buy two keys. It costs more, but if you lose one, getting these off is going to be a bad day. Expensive, yes—but if you’re trying to make wheel theft a pain and hopefully make thieves move on, these are about as good as it gets.
