About This Video

Winter’s coming, and if you live in the Northeast you already know the deal: road salt absolutely kills vehicles. In this video I’m getting out in front of that problem on my brand new 2025 Tacoma SR5 before it ever sees a salty road. The frame underneath is basically perfect right now—no rust on the welds, just a tiny bit on a few bolts—so October is the time to protect it. I’m trying Fluid Film for the first time, which is a lanolin-based coating that stays oily and acts like a barrier so salt and water can’t get to the metal. I used five aerosol cans and the hose/nozzle kit to spray the inside of the Tacoma’s boxed frame through the factory holes (because if you only coat the outside, it can still rust from the inside). I pulled the spare tire and a small front dust cover to get better access, then coated pretty much every piece of steel I could reach while avoiding stuff like brakes, exhaust, engine/transmission, and most rubber. It’s messy, the smell is… weird (orthodontist at first, then “dirty sheep”), and I ended up wearing a face shield because the spray goes everywhere when the hose comes out of the frame. It took a couple hours, but everything has that sheen now, and I’ll see how it holds up through rain and the winter season.
