Ok all, this is the car I've been driving. Here is a list of all the problems I've had with it and the work I had to do. Feel free to ask questions or share your own experiences in the comments. About This Video

I’ve had my 2011 Hyundai Sonata (2.4L) for about eight years now—my first car, and still my daily driver—so I wanted to lay out all the problems I’ve dealt with over that time. These cars aren’t known for reliability (they’re notorious for engines letting go), but at around 96,000 miles I’ve been lucky: no engine or transmission failure. What I have had is a bunch of annoying “stupid things,” plus some jobs that were more work than they should’ve been. On the outside it’s mostly normal aging—clear coat and paint peeling in spots, and headlight fading from sitting in the sun. Mechanically, brakes have been the biggest headache: calipers seem to seize easily, I’ve replaced every caliper at least once, and the rear brake job design is ridiculous since you have to disconnect the upper control arm to remove the caliper bracket. I also had a brake pedal plunger issue that kept my brake lights on (traction control light came on too), and I fixed it with a simple penny “shim” mod. I also cover oil consumption (check it between changes), O2 sensors, a split serpentine belt, suspension/steering parts like tie rods and CV joints, and an EVAP small leak that ended up being a cracked fuel pump top and rusted locking ring. If you don’t wrench at all, this car could be a real headache.
