In this one I’m basically doing a proper studio fish-wall update, and then building another new tank to keep that whole “wild but simple” vibe going. I start off checking in on the shrimp tanks (they’re absolutely everywhere when you feed them) and I explain what’s actually made them so successful for me this time: I’ve left them alone for stability, I’m feeding small amounts way more often, and I’ve bumped hardness up a bit with the right rocks so the neocaridina can moult cleanly (no “ring of death” dramas). Soft water here is a thing, so getting TDS closer to 200–300 has made a massive difference. Then I clean out and prep a neglected tank, add a super thin “dusting” of a really natural yellow sand, and do a very simple hardscape with black lava rock and manzanita twigs—because these wall tanks still need to be practical for catching fish. I clear the water with API Accu-Clear, swap struggling red root floaters for faster-growing floaters (mini water lettuce / frogbit style) to help with nutrients and algae control, and I also show how a tiny flow issue caused grime in the foreground on my homemade tank—easy fix: clean the prefilter and get the flow back. End result: the new tank looks clean, classy, and ready to stock with something cool once I decide what I fancy.
