Our 24-hour street food challenge in Delhi was the perfect way to end our three-week journey through India! After experiencing incredible regional cuisines from Kerala to Rajasthan, we wanted to dive deep into Delhi's legendary street food scene before departing. Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi became our playground - this historic area has been feeding locals and travelers for centuries and is considered the heart of Delhi's street food culture. Starting bright and early, we tackled traditional breakfast items like desi bedmi and halwa nagori from heritage shops like Shyam Sweets, then moved through the famous Parathe Wali Gali (Paratha Street) for stuffed breads. The variety was incredible - from refreshing drinks like masala chai and fresh lime soda to hearty dishes like chole kulche and dal makhani at legendary spots like Kake Di Hatti. Some highlights included sampling kulfi from multiple vendors (including the famous stuffed kulfi from Kuremal Mohan), trying fusion items like rainbow dosa, and discovering tiny street carts serving everything from corn water to fresh coconut. The challenge wasn't just about quantity - it was about experiencing the authentic flavors that make Delhi's street food scene world-renowned. What amazed us most was the incredible value - 24 different foods and drinks for under $24 total, proving that Delhi offers some of the world's best and most affordable street food. From century-old family recipes to creative modern twists, every bite told a story of Delhi's rich culinary heritage. This food marathon perfectly captured why India has become one of our favorite countries for authentic, flavorful, and incredibly affordable cuisine. About This Video

We set ourselves a pretty unhinged goal in Old Delhi: try 24 Indian street foods in 24 hours, and keep the total under $24. We’d been traveling around India for three weeks and it still felt like we’d only scratched the surface—so this was our “speedrun Indian cuisine” attempt before flying out in two days. We started in the Chandni Chowk area with iconic breakfasts (spicy desi bedmi + sweet halwa nagori, then chole kulche), accidentally ordered what we thought might be chai (success… eventually), and kept grabbing anything that smelled too good to ignore. From there, the day turned into a full-on street food marathon: parantha in the famous alley we basically stumbled into by accident, mango kulfi that honestly might’ve been my favorite thing all day, a wild-looking dosa that made us pause for allergy reasons, pani puri that’s basically a comedy bit because it’s filled with liquid, and the most refreshing mango lassi on a hot Delhi afternoon. Dinner was the grand finale: the giant butter naan with dal makhani that we’d researched and it still somehow exceeded expectations—best thing we ate all day. We finished with a dessert run (gulab jamun and fruit-stuffed kulfi) and ended the challenge at 24 foods, 2,26 rupees, and 23,945 steps.
