We Drove a $1 Van Across Europe

Join us as we drive a $1 van across Europe! We've been wanting to try van life for a long time and recently heard of an affordable way to do it. Van relocations. Van rental companies often need vans moved across large distances, and anyone can offer to do it. We found a van that needed to be moved from Catania, Italy to Berlin, Germany (~1,500 miles). We had a tight deadline of 7 days to deliver the van. This became a race against the clock while we crossed Europe trying to not to damage a brand new van and rack up additional fees. We are not affiliated or working with either the van company or the relocation company. About This Video

We picked up a brand new camper van in Sicily and attempted to drive it all the way to Berlin in just seven days… for $1 a day. The catch? Van relocations can be chaotic, and ours started with a five-hour argument at pickup when we were told we were only “allowed” 600 km total and would be charged for every kilometer over. So we hit the road anyway—two people who’d never driven in Europe and had never driven a camper van—trying to make the deadline without scratching a brand new rig or racking up surprise fees. Over the week we tackled real van-life problems (stealth camping, figuring out diesel, narrow roads that felt way too tight for a new van, and the gross reality of black tanks). We squeezed in the fun stuff too: driving the Amalfi Coast, pizza in Naples (yes, anchovies and capers won us over), gelato in Florence, a swim near Verona, hiking in Austria, and a wild “did we already cross the border?” moment where we didn’t even realize we’d entered Austria. We also used Park4Night to find free spots, cooked a sentimental van dinner for our five-year anniversary, and gave a full van tour—spinning seats, huge bed, tons of storage, and all. This trip was proof that big Europe adventures can be doable on a budget… if you’re flexible and ready for battle.
