About This Video

Today we ate a full day of Turkish street food in Istanbul, and honestly… Turkish food might just be the best food in the world. We started with our very first Turkish breakfast ever—menemen (we got ours with cheese and sausage) plus a full spread of cheeses, salami, olives, cucumbers, and an entire loaf of fresh bread. Caleb tried black mulberry juice, and I tried ayran (the salted yogurt drink), which for me tasted exactly like “liquid cottage cheese”—not terrible, just a weird experience to drink. From there we bounced all over the city tasting iconic bites and showing you what we spent along the way. We hit a pickle shop for tursu suyu (pickle juice loaded with pickled veggies), tried Turkish coffee (strong, thick, and unfiltered), and finally faced the lunch we were procrastinating: lamb intestine sandwiches (kokoreç). Turns out it wasn’t scary—it was seasoned and cooked really well. We followed it up with a döner sandwich that was genuinely unreal, crossed from the Asian side to the European side for a massive kumpir baked potato with a million toppings, and ended at the Grand Bazaar for stretchy Turkish ice cream (and yes, the semi-humiliating ice cream “show”).
