This is my submission for the #canonfirstcutcontest Recreating this trip my dad took in 1990 has been a dream of mine for a long time. If I win, we'd be able to recreate this trip sooner than we hoped. About This Video

This trailer is us chasing a dream that’s been living in my head since I was a kid: recreating the exact kind of bike trip my dad took in 1990—Holland, Belgium, France, Spain—when the “plan” was basically a paper map, a payphone, and whatever the locals told you over a meal. He’d roll into small towns, find a pub, talk to people, and somehow end up with directions, a place to sleep, and a list of things you can’t miss. That’s the vibe we want: spontaneous, human, and a little bit risky. Earlier this year, Caleb and I tested the idea with a six-day trial run across Portugal: 300 miles with no GPS, navigating with maps and a compass. We still had our phones and the internet, and it was still one of the most beautiful and most challenging trips we’ve ever done—roundabouts became our “you are here” markers, and finding a room at the end of the day got real stressful, real fast. But we made it to Lisbon, proved we’re physically up for it, and proved we can actually read a map. Next step: cycle across Europe like it’s 1990—leave our phones behind, ask locals for directions, and maybe pack a sleeping bag in case we end up in the woods.
