I went live for a chill guitar hangout and chat, and yeah—first thing I did was the “boring part”: warming up. I hadn’t played at all that day, so I grabbed the metronome, woke my hands up, and talked through why I switch things up instead of just mindlessly chasing speed. I also joked about my legato needing extra attention—doesn’t “suck suck,” but it sucks enough that I’ve gotta warm it up properly before I try to play anything serious. We ended up going down a bunch of fun rabbit holes: reggae strumming, 80s melodic solos, and the whole “who’s the fastest shredder” debate (Shawn Lane, Frank Gambale, Jason Richardson, Rick Graham, etc.). I also talked about how modern gear and processing can make people sound more “liquid” and faster—compression, gain staging, boosts, all that—without necessarily being fake. And I shared my honest take on burnout: I still love music, but I don’t even listen to metal as much in my free time anymore. Toward the end, I answered practical questions: how long to practice (usually 15–30 minutes a day, up to an hour), getting into teaching, and I demonstrated my go-to wrist/forearm stretches (active vs. passive) plus simple wrist mobility circles. We also started getting into learning the notes on the fretboard by understanding the 12-note cycle on the low E string.
